The COVID-19 situation is rapidly evolving. This FAQ provides further information regarding our schools and protocols in place.

Are schools open?
Schools are open, and classes are in session as of today. The Minister of Education announced the suspension of classes in all Manitoba K-12 public schools beginning Mar. 23, 2020, and extending through Apr. 10, 2020. This action is a proactive measure to help reduce the potential spread of COVID-19. We understand some families may not feel comfortable sending their children to school, especially in cases where family members are immuno-compromised. Hanover School Division respects the rights of parents/guardians to keep their children at home. Safety is a concern for all. Those choosing to keep their children at home should inform the respective schools as per regular absence procedures.

What does “suspended classes” mean?
Students will not attend school during the weeks of Mar. 23-27, and Apr. 6-10. School staff will continue to support students’ learning at home. Teachers are working on developing lessons and resources.

What should I do if my child is sick?
If you or anyone in your family is showing signs of illness, stay at home. Specific health care concerns should be directed to your health care provider or call Manitoba Health Links at 1-888-315-9257.

What is happening with those who are sick, but still arrive at school this week?
Students and staff who are exhibiting symptoms of the cold or flu are asked to stay home. If a child becomes ill or is displaying symptoms at school, parents/guardians will be contacted and required to pick up their child as soon as possible.

How is HSD protecting students who are medically fragile or have compromised immunity?
Given the nature of care these students require while at school, additional caution/intervention will be taken for both the safety of the students and the staff who work with them. Staff will be diligent in following the universal precautions when performing personal care duties of students.

Are buses running this week?
School buses will continue to run as scheduled. Parents/Guardians should be aware that scheduling and routes may change on short notice due to COVID-19 concerns or driver availability. All buses have spray bottles with an approved disinfecting solution. Drivers are wiping down handrails and high contact areas twice a day after the am and pm runs.

Does Hanover School Division have adequate cleaning supplies?
Yes, we currently have enough inventory to take care of all cleaning procedures necessary to help prevent the spread of COVID-19.
